Hotel Mystay Tenjin Fukuoka

About the hotel

Hotel Tenjin is situated very close to the Tenjin subway station, that has a direct line to the Fukuoka Domestic Airport.  It can be considered as a business hotel as the rooms are very simple but functional, the prices are considered budget rates and it has a on site restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.  The hotel has a few different types of rooms ranging from  Double, Twin and Queen size beds in Standard, Superior and Deluxe rooms. The hotel also has a massage spa shop in the hotel.  In the lobby there are  complimentary bathroom amenities available for guests.  If you check in earlier than 3pm, the staff will store your luggage just next to the front desk area (not in the luggage room).

About the room

We stayed in the Superior Queen Room which according to the hotel website is a  18㎡ room and has a queen size bed. I had stayed in enough rooms in Japan to know this doesn’t feel like a 18㎡ room. It feels like a 14㎡ or 15㎡ room. Maybe the layout of the furniture makes the space much smaller but it does feel like there is a bit of wasted space where the kettle and fridge are located.  The bed is indeed big enough and one of those that pushes against the wall to max out the space. The TV is mounted on the wall  but because there isn’t plenty of walking space between the edge of the bed and the wall, one has to be careful not to bump into the edge of the TV.  To illustrate how small the walking space is,  I have place my luggage to show you the distance.

In the Superior room, there is a table and a chair but we just use it for storage. There is also a folding luggage rack but it’s almost impossible to use it.  A humidifier is also included in the room.

The bathroom size is decent  with a bathtub and shower combo, a bidet and basic toiletries. Next to the entrance is the mini fridge, safe and kettle . The hotel provides 2 green tea bags for  guest.

Why I pick this hotel

The hotel is walking distance to the subway station that has a direct line to the airport and it’s within our budget. Given we only need a night stay we have selected a basic room with reasonable amenities. It is also walkable from this hotel to the Canal City Mall area. The last reason is this hotel is also walk distance to the car rental place where we dropped our car off.

Overall Impressions

This hotel is simple and clean.  It has free wireless internet and while the room is very small, we didn’t spend a lot of time in the room so it’s ok.  It has free coffee from 6AM and coin washer and dryer though we didn’t use them.  Front desk staff are very friendly as well. The hotel also gives guests a discount if you use the massage spa place . Apart from the tiny room which caught me by surprise upon entering, everything else is acceptable.

Access to this hotel

5mins walk from Tenjin Station Exit 1.

If coming from the domestic airport, take the Kuko Line and it cost 260yen to Tenjin subway station. It is then about 5-7mins walk to the end of the underground mall and exit at Exit 1.  This is not recommended if you have a heavy luggage and do not wish to carry your luggage up the stairs.

The other option which we didn’t try is to take Exit 5 which has an escalator to Parco Shopping mall.
